Happy Birthday Populous Online!

It's a big day in the history of Populous Online. The site is 6 years old today. To celebrate I've uploaded one of the old sile logos our site had in the past. To see it click here. This design and name was made in 2006 when JohnNet provided us webspace to host the site on. The number of visitors keeps increasing that really surprised us. Thank you for visiting the oldest Populous fansite, I hope you found everything you were looking for.
About the Devil Worlds Single Player Challenge, we just developed new things such a tornado fix on lava styles, conversation messages and a yet secret thing that you will see in the beta. You probably know that if you ever played Multiplayer but it would take away the fun of the surprise if I tell you.

The block 0-1 beta is comming soon!

Good news everyone! I'm almost finished the Alpha-ready version of the last map. As you will see, I made a complete new terrain style especially for this map. I uploaded some picture from the best parts. As you know, there was a mistake in the video of block 1. Unfortunately, I messed up the hdr files (Two different map had the same name) thats why Dezsike made a video from the Mystery of Kikikini except the Legend of Kikikini. (the right map wasn't finished when the video was recorded so it looked like the "World sized uberhole")

The infulence of the SP maps

As you know, some of the single player maps are inspired by the multiplayer maps. Because I don't have much work on the block 0-1 while they are on beta test, I decided to redesign some of the multiplayer maps of DW1: Classic Worlds. Most of those maps are realy old and ugly. Since 2004 we learned the way of the high quality mod and map making. Thats why I want to remake them. Please, send me feedback about the maps like: which one is your favourite, which one you hate most, which kind of maps you like better (isles, one continent or dead sea like waterless...).

Exams Over

Phew, finally. Exams were hard and was alot in the past 2 months but now it's over and now I'll have more time for the Single Player Challenge. Please apologise for the delay, you will have the public beta soon. I've encountered a little problem, I've rewritten the attacking algorithm of level 5 five times already and it's still not working as I expected, but it's close now. Also Devilhu is remaking level 7 and 8, level 8 is nearly completed. I also developing the launcher that will do the miracle and load the Solar System of Devil Worlds and later other Single Player packs and also provides you a feedback interface to tell us your option about each beta map.

Block 1 Video

We have uploaded a video from Block 1: Classic Worlds of the Single Player Challenge. The last two maps are in an early state but the main things are visible. Watch it now in our Video Gallery. You can also watch it on Dezsike's YouTube Channel. If you have a YouTube account and want to be notified when we upload a new video feel free to subscribe. In the near future you can expect more Single Player challenge videos and you can be the first who notices it before everyone else.
As only two maps left you can expect the Beta Release soon. It will not contain the Multiplayer maps and both the Launcher and the AI at the completion of each level will display a message that you are playing a Beta map. Your feedback and bug report can be submitted via the Launcher or via the Contact Us page.

New maps revealed - Downloads updated

We have revealed level 5-7 of Devil Worlds Single Player Challenge. We will have a video as soon as we complete the terrain of level 8. We will release a beta as soon as all 8 maps reaches the Beta Ready status, at the moment level 1-4 is in this status.
I have updated the map downloads to use installers instead of zip files as I got reports that some people can't make them work. By default the installer will read the Pop folder from the registry so you can simply click Install if something appears in the iput field.

Downloads Recategorized

As Populous Downloader is no more and we released the minimaps on the site, I have recategorized the downloads. Now the Demo and Mission Packs category has 3 subcategories: Minimaps, Multiplayer and Single Player. The main category itself contains the Demo and Undiscovered Worlds, the Minimaps category contains the World Sized Uber Hole and Wildman Kingdom, the Multiplayer category contains Snipe's Prison Worlds, the Single Player category contains Age of Chaos and Impboy's Katara's Voyage. Also the Devil Worlds category has been split into two categories, the Multiplayer and Single Player Challenge. If you have maps (either Single Player, Multiplayer or Minimap) or any other Populous resource you want to add to our site you can do so by clicking the Add Download link on the Downloads page. If you have screenshots you can add them to our gallery. We aiming to have 1000 screenshots, at the moment we have 700, so help us. You can upload them by clicking Upload Files in the gallery menu. Please note that we can only accept jpg, gif and png format and Populous saves bmp so you have to convert them (Paint can do it) before you can upload. If you have screenshots on Devil Worlds maps and you put the map name to the Keywords field it will be displayed on the map page.

Populous Downloader close-down

We are announcing that from today Populous Downloader will be no longer in service. The reason of stopping the service is that Populous Reincarnated finally (after almost 5 years) developed the missing features into the MatchMaker that Populous Downloader intended to replace. Since they are now mostly integrated to the MatchMaker, most of the Populous Downloader services are useless. Let's see them one by one:
- Automatic Mappack Updates: Now integrated to the MatchMaker, as soon as somebody launches a mappack it gets downloaded.
- Skin Downloader: An official similar program is released by PopRe.
- Belltone Changer: Never directly supported by PopRe, also you can do it manually with any sound file.
- Online, CD and Cache Restorer: These are the only features of Populous Downloader that is still useful. They will be released seperately in the future with new restoring algorithms.
- Pop Downloads: They are here in Populous Online, it was useless since the beginning.
- Skin Maker: It will be released seperately in the future.
- Minimaps: Minimaps has been released as downloads on the site.
- Point Checker: The leagues changed and we would need to completely rewrite this module. It's a thing we won't do.
- Mission Packs: They are available on our site and was should be the part of Pop Downloads module anyway. It was implemented for the Devil Worlds Single Player Challenge, but it will come with an integrated launcher that can do the automatic updates.

At the moment CD Restorer, Cache Restorer (Internet cache creation source unavailable) and Skin Maker is still available for existing users in Offline mode but the installer has been removed and no new installation is possible. Populous Downloader will display Network Error when you launch it. To uninstall simply delete the folder and the shortcuts, Populous Downloader never touched your registry so no uninstaller is required.

New map revealed

We have revealed the first map of Block 1: Classic Worlds. Block 0 is now almost completed and requires only little corrections. We will release the Devil Worlds Player with Block 0, Block 1 and Devil Worlds 1-4 Multiplayer. The terrains of Classic Worlds is nearly complete so you can expect a Block 1 video soon.

We are not dead!

Hello everybody and please apologise for the long inactivity. The University is very hard and took all of our free time. I even got a job so I was unable to attend the site at all, but the good news is that we are back with many exciting news around the world of Populous. Recently Populous Reincarnated started to collect statistics about the games played in the MatchMaker and we found that Devil Worlds is very popular. Seeing this I thrown all other non-Populous projects away to focus on the Single Player Challenge and Devil Worlds 5: Desert Worlds. I also implementing a new counter to the mappack pages that displays how many matches has been played on that map - using the statistics of Populous Reincarnated - so you can easily see the popularity of each map. That counter will works for future custom mappack pages so if you want to promote your mappack on our site go ahead, you will even have a counter. Also we have released the first in-game video of the Single Player Challenge to take a sneak peek into the new maps and the surprises waiting for you. Watch it now in our Video Gallery.
